In this edition of “Mix Your Menu,” we focus on new takes on the margarita that you can fold into your drink menu, courtesy of Breakthru Beverage Virginia Field Sales Manager Jeff Mangold.

1.75 oz. silver tequila
.75 oz. passion fruit liqueur
1 oz. lime juice
.5 oz. agave syrup
Glassware: Salt-rimmed glass
Method: Add all ingredients to a shaker. Add ice. Shake.
Jeff’s Take: Passion Fruit captures the essence of summertime—the purplish/pink aesthetic screams vacation vibes.

2 oz. jalapeño tequila
.5 oz. lime juice
.5 oz. agave nectar
3 watermelon cubes
Glassware: Salt-rimmed glass
Method: Muddle the watermelon cubes in the bottom of a shaker and add rest of ingredients. Add ice. Shake. Strain over fresh ice. Garnish with cilantro.
Jeff’s Take: I love using jalapeños in cocktails, but they are very unpredictable. The capsaicin—the compound that gives a jalapeño its spiciness—isn’t evenly distributed across the jalapeño. Drinks that are made from the same jalapeño can vary drastically in degrees of spiciness. Jalapeño Tequila takes the guesswork out of this and delivers a wonderful warming spice and bright jalapeño flavor that is very palatable to all audiences.

1.5 oz. reposado tequila
.5 oz. mezcal
.75 oz. pineapple juice
.5 oz. lime juice
.25 oz. agave nectar
Splash of grenadine
Pinch of salt
Glassware: Salt-rimmed glass
Method: Add all ingredients to a shaker. Add ice. Shake. Strain over fresh ice.
Jeff’s Take: I love to expose people to the wonders of mezcal. The smokiness provides great depth and plays so nice with sweet flavors, and it goes great with a BBQ.
